Full Hunter Pocket Watches have a solid metal cover that closes over the dial on a hinge and springs open when you press the crown.
Full Hunter Pocket Watches have a solid metal cover that closes over the dial on a hinge and springs open when you press the crown. The cover protects the crystal in a pocket. This is the style most people picture as a classic pocket watch, offered in hand-wound mechanical and Swiss quartz models.
A full hunter, or hunter case, closes completely over the dial. You press the crown to spring the cover open and read the time, then close it again. Many have a decorated or patterned cover, and some hide a skeleton dial underneath.
Mechanical full hunters are wound by hand using the crown and take no battery. Swiss quartz models from the Classique collection run on a battery; find them in Swiss Pocket Watches.
Many full hunters are made to order. Made-to-order Classique watches are made in 2–3 weeks, and FOB & Co backorders ship in 1–2 months. In-stock orders are usually dispatched within 1–2 business days (Monday to Friday) from Brisbane.
Full hunters are a common choice for the groom and groomsmen, retirements and milestone birthdays. For a name or date on the watch, see Personalized Pocket Watches, or compare with Half Hunter Pocket Watches.
The name is usually traced to riders on the hunting field, who needed a solid cover to protect the crystal if they fell. The cover still does the same job today, keeping the dial safe from keys and coins in a pocket.
Press the crown at the top of the case and the cover springs open on its hinge. Close it by pressing the cover gently until it clicks. Avoid prying the cover open with a fingernail, which can strain the hinge over time.
Some can. The watches in Personalized Pocket Watches can be engraved with a name, a date or a short message, and several of them are full hunters. Engraving adds 2–4 business days before your order is dispatched.
