To start a mechanical pocket watch, turn the crown to wind it until you feel it tense, then pull the crown out one click, turn it to set the time and push it back in. Our watches are complex inside but easy to use, and a few simple habits keep them running well.
How do I wind my pocket watch?
When you first receive your watch, turn the crown (the knob at the top) to wind it until it is full. Stop winding as soon as you feel it tense up. Do not force it past that point.
How do I set the time?
- Pull the crown upward slightly until you feel it click.
- Turn the crown to set the correct time.
- Push the crown back into place.
Do Swiss quartz pocket watches need winding?
No. A Swiss quartz watch runs on a battery, so you set the time and leave it. Most of the Classique collection in Swiss Pocket Watches uses Swiss quartz movements.
How do I look after my pocket watch?
- Keep it away from water.
- Handle it with care and avoid knocks and drops.
- Wear it on one of our Pocket Watch Chains so it is less likely to fall.
- Store it in one of our Pocket Watch Display Boxes when you are not wearing it.
Any other advice?
Take care not to pull the watch out in public too often. It may make others feel insecure about their own choice of timekeeping device.
